21st Annual Kingston Giant Rally
Event Report
Saturday and Sunday Aug 16-17 was the 21st annual IMAA Giant Fun Fly at the Kingston RC Club Field.
Excellent weather--Excellent Field The event was blessed with exceptional sunshine for both days!! This was a bit unique since many events across the country this summer have been hit with a lot of rain. Added to this was the fine condition of the Kingston Field.
A good mix A total 32 pilots came and enjoyed this event as the following photos will show. There were over 48 aircraft and a good mix of scale and aerobatic types to provide excellent variety for the spectators and participants alike.
Hospitality The Kingston club as always are great hosts and made sure no one went hungry. The morning egg and ham on muffin was a great start to the day and as usual the barbeque did a steady trade during the noon break. A dinner was also arranged from "Swiss" restaurant down the road.
Extra benefits. One of the benefits from attending events like this are the little trade hints and latest gadgets displayed by the visiting pilots. This year Dave Baron from Connecticut gave us some good practical advice on converting large models to electric as shown by his Pitts. Also Stephen Johnston was kept busy when not flying by showing us how to fix a chafing wire problem on the new 9303 JR radios. He probably helped save a few models with his on-the-spot repair clinic. Many thanks Stephen.
Prizes There were many pilot prizes given out by draw. From hats and shirts to cordless drivers. But the big winner was Rob Hammond from the Arnprior Club. He was the winner of the raffle prize....the ARF Beaver from KMP Models. This is Rob's lucky year since he was also a big winner at the Arnprior Rally of Giants in June (DA50 engine)
The Chapter 217 organizers and the host Kingston club have all agreed that this event will continue.
So, we'll see you all again next year bring along a buddy!

21st Annual Kingston Giant Rally. Hosted by IMAA chapter 217 and the Kingston RCM. This should be the biggest and best Kingston Rally yet. Raffles and door prizes. Giant scale aircraft (monoplanes greater than 80" wingspan, multi winged aircraft greater than 60" wingspan, jets with a combined length and span greater than 140" and anything 1/4 scale and larger) permitted to fly. We are IMAA and MAAC sanctioned. No landing fee for IMAA members. Free camping, no hookups. Local hotels are available. Historic Kingston is close by for the family to visit.
