This will be our 25th Anniversary for this event and will sure to be even bigger and better than ever. While we are not taking any early registrations yet, have a quick look at the excitement from last year. I just want to thank everyone who came to our 24th Annual IMAA 217 Giant Rally in Kingston this year. The weather was a sunny 26, and with 106 registered pilots, there was no shortage of flying. The grounds were just a sea of trailers and tents and with the huge variety of planes, both pilots and spectators were treated to a very entertaining day.
The event actually started unofficially on Friday night with a tailgate party by Matt and his amazing wings on the smoker. After the pilots meeting on Saturday at 9:00 the event jumped into full swing. As usual, the time slot from 12:00 – 12:30 was reserved for 3D only to entertain the crowds while most took in the BBQ lunch which was put on by the Kingston club. Flying continued until 4:30, when we shut down for the prize draws, and there were plenty to handout. This was the fifth year running that this has been the largest Giant Scale event in Canada, and the Sponsors came out in full swing again. The first major prize drawn was there Early Registration 26% Yak 54 for those who registered by August 1st. There was no extra cost for this; you just had to register by this date. The icing on the cake was that if you were an IMAA member, the registration was free. No excuses for next year then. Rocky Rachau was the lucky one this year. After the prize draws, we were treated once again to a fabulous chicken dinner for 125. The Kingston club has always helped us out with their facilities and cuisine, and if you have been here before, you know that it is second to none. Many of the pilots stepped in to help out during the day, and I want to thank all of you for making this the greatest event yet.
With all that said, next year will be on August 18-19, 2012. This will be our 25th anniversary, and we will be going all out for this one.
